Byron Bay

The sunrise from Cape Byron Lighthouse — Australia's most easterly point — is a must-do experience. Wake early, walk the 3.7km Cape Byron Walking Track through coastal rainforest, and watch the first rays of sunlight hit the Australian mainland. Dolphins are frequently spotted from the lookout, and during migration season (May–November), you can watch humpback whales pass right by the headland.

Byron Bay's beaches are world-famous. The Pass, Wategos, and Tallow Beach each offer something different — from perfect beginner surf breaks to secluded swimming coves. Kayaking with dolphins at dawn is one of the most magical experiences on the East Coast, and Byron's warm waters make it a year-round activity.

The Byron Hinterland is equally stunning. Just 30 minutes inland, you'll find lush rainforest waterfalls at Minyon Falls and Protesters Falls, the creative village of Bangalow, and the stunning panoramic views from the Nightcap National Park. Many travellers say the hinterland was the unexpected highlight of their trip.
