Better than I imagined
We saw more whales than I ever expected — breaching, spy-hopping, the lot. The crew were brilliant and even guaranteed a sighting. Do it!

So close to the whales
A curious whale came right up to the boat and hung around for ages. The guides were passionate and knew heaps about the humpbacks. Unforgettable.

Humpbacks stole the show
These gentle giants breached so close we got soaked and did not care one bit. The guides were fantastic with the kids too.

Whales put on a show!
We had humpbacks breaching right beside the boat — mums and calves waving their fins. The crew clearly knew where to find them. Magical morning.

Great morning on the water
Plenty of whale activity and a knowledgeable crew. Would have liked a touch longer out there but a wonderful experience overall.

Bucket-list whale watching
Humpbacks everywhere, a calf breaching over and over. The commentary really added to it. Warm, friendly crew and a very comfortable boat.

About Tangalooma Island Resort - Whale Watching Day Cruise
Operated by Tangalooma Island Resort · 1 Day · Brisbane, QLD
Set out from Brisbane for a full day that blends coastal cruising with laid-back island time. Your journey begins with a return boat transfer from Holt St Wharf, then rolls straight into a day pass at Tangalooma Island Resort, where you can make the most of the pools, restaurants and bars before or after your whale watch.
The star of the day is a three-hour Whale Watch Cruise across the clear waters off Moreton Island. Keep your eyes on the horizon for the moment a whale breaks the surface, tails up and spray flying, while you enjoy a light lunch on board and a standard beverage during the transfer. Back on the island, you can get closer to the marine story of Tangalooma with Eco Ranger experiences and the "Discover the world of Dolphins" presentation at the Eco Centre. It’s a relaxed, well-rounded day out with a genuine Queensland feel — easy, scenic and packed with reasons to stay curious. Book in and let the day unfold naturally.
Know before you go: - Check in at Holt St Wharf, Brisbane, and allow plenty of time to find the wharf and board comfortably before departure. - Bring sun protection such as a hat, sunglasses and reef-safe sunscreen, as you’ll be spending plenty of time out on the water and around the resort. - Wear comfortable clothing and non-slip shoes, and pack swimwear and a towel if you’d like to use the resort pools. - A camera or binoculars is a good idea if you want a closer look at the whales and coastal scenery. - Whale sightings are wildlife encounters, so while the crew will do their best, sightings can’t be guaranteed. - If you’re prone to seasickness, consider bringing motion sickness medication and taking it before boarding.
