Great morning on the water
Plenty of whale activity and a knowledgeable crew. Would have liked a touch longer out there but a wonderful experience overall.

Better than I imagined
We saw more whales than I ever expected — breaching, spy-hopping, the lot. The crew were brilliant and even guaranteed a sighting. Do it!

Bucket-list whale watching
Humpbacks everywhere, a calf breaching over and over. The commentary really added to it. Warm, friendly crew and a very comfortable boat.

So close to the whales
A curious whale came right up to the boat and hung around for ages. The guides were passionate and knew heaps about the humpbacks. Unforgettable.

Whales put on a show!
We had humpbacks breaching right beside the boat — mums and calves waving their fins. The crew clearly knew where to find them. Magical morning.

Humpbacks stole the show
These gentle giants breached so close we got soaked and did not care one bit. The guides were fantastic with the kids too.

About Wilsons Prom Whale Cruise
Operated by Wildlife Coast Cruises · 6 Hours · Wilsons Promontory, VIC
Set out from Port Welshpool Jetty and spend six laid-back but genuinely exciting hours cruising the wild coastline of Wilsons Promontory. From September to November, this stretch of sea becomes a highway for migrating Humpback Whales, and you’ll have a front-row seat to the action as your skipper scans the water for blow, tail and breach.
As you glide past rugged headlands, remote bays and standout spots like Rabbit Island, Sealers Cove, Refuge Cove and the Prom lighthouse, keep your eyes peeled for the locals that make this coastline so special. You may spot Australian fur seals hauled out on the rocks, Common Dolphins slicing through the water, and shy Albatrosses riding the wind above the swell. With onboard wildlife interpretation, video displays, morning tea and lunch included, it’s an easy, comfortable way to soak up one of Victoria’s most beautiful marine environments. If you’re keen to see Wilsons Prom at its wildest, this is a brilliant way to do it.
Know before you go: - This cruise departs from Port Welshpool Jetty, so make sure you head there rather than Wilsons Prom itself. - Whale sightings are very common between September and November, but as with all wildlife, they can never be guaranteed. - Bring warm layers and a windproof or waterproof jacket, as conditions on the water can feel a lot cooler than on land. - Sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and a camera are well worth packing for the trip. - If you’re prone to seasickness, it’s a good idea to take precautions before boarding. - Check your booking confirmation for departure details and arrive with plenty of time to check in and get settled.
