Magic scenery, hot days
The desert heat is real so bring water, but Uluru and Kata Tjuta are unmissable. Sunset with a glass of bubbles was a highlight. Great guide.

Uluru at sunrise is spiritual
Watching the rock change colour as the sun came up gave me goosebumps. Kata Tjuta was just as stunning. Our guide shared amazing Anangu culture.

The Red Centre delivered
Uluru is even more powerful in person. The base walk, the Field of Light and the outback sunsets were all incredible. A proper bucket-list trip.

Long drives, worth it
A fair bit of driving in the Red Centre but the scenery and the guide's stories kept it interesting. Kings Canyon rim walk was a highlight.

Field of Light was magical
Uluru by day, then thousands of lights glowing in the desert at night. Add the cultural stories from our guide and it was unforgettable.

Once in a lifetime
Sunrise over Uluru, walking the base, learning the Dreamtime stories — deeply moving. The swag camping added to the whole outback experience.

About Outback Ballooning 60 Minute Hot Air Balloon Flight
Operated by Outback Ballooning · 4 Hours · Alice Springs, NT
There’s something special about watching the desert wake up from a hot air balloon. You’ll head out before sunrise, settling into the quiet of the cool outback morning as the MacDonnell Ranges slowly catch the first light. Then, as the burner lifts you skyward, the land opens beneath you in wide red plains, with the chance to spot kangaroos moving across the country below.
This is one of those experiences that feels calm, spacious and a little surreal in the best way. Your flight usually covers around 10 to 20 kilometres south of Alice Springs, drifting above historic Owen Springs Cattle Station and the rugged Central Australian landscape. After landing, you can lend a hand as the crew packs away the balloon or simply stand back and take in the stillness. Then settle in for light refreshments, sparkling wine and tropical fruit juice before heading off with your flight certificate and a few great stories to take home. If you’re keen to see the outback from a whole new angle, this is a brilliant way to do it.
Know before you go: - Children aged 3 to 5 are generally not recommended, but may be considered case by case. - Pickup is usually around one hour before first light; your exact time will be confirmed the day before your flight. - Flight conditions vary each day, so you may be on the ground or in the balloon when the sun rises, but you’ll still catch a beautiful dawn. - The balloon operates south of Alice Springs, near the MacDonnell Ranges and Owen Springs Cattle Station. - The tour does not operate on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day. - Wear comfortable clothing suitable for an early start and bring a camera for the landing and sunrise views.
