Noosa Travel Guide 2026: Things to Do

Dundee Adventure Team 8 min read Updated 2026-08-12

How to make the most of Noosa and the Sunshine Coast — the national park, the Everglades, surf beaches and the gateway to K'gari. When to go, what it costs and how to plan.

Noosa is a stylish beach town on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, about 2 hours north of Brisbane. The highlights are the Noosa National Park coastal walk (with koalas and Hell's Gates), the calm Main Beach for learning to surf, the boutique Hastings Street scene, and boat trips through the Noosa Everglades — one of only two everglade systems in the world. Noosa is also a popular launch point for K'gari (Fraser Island) 4WD tours.

Plan Your Noosa Trip

When to go

Noosa is a year-round destination. September to November and March to May bring warm days and fewer crowds. Summer (Dec-Feb) is hot, busy and great for the beach; winter is mild and sunny — perfect for the coastal walk.

How long to stay

Give Noosa itself 2-3 days for the national park, the beaches and an Everglades cruise. Add 1-3 days if you're using it as the launch point for a K'gari tour.

Getting there

Fly into Sunshine Coast Airport (Maroochydore), about 40 minutes south, or Brisbane, about 2 hours away. Many East Coast travellers arrive by road as part of the Brisbane-to-Cairns run.

Getting around

Noosa is compact and walkable around Hastings Street, the river and Main Beach, with local buses to Noosa Junction and the beaches. For the Everglades and K'gari you'll join a guided tour that includes transport.

Where to stay

Hastings Street and Noosa Heads put you closest to the beach and national park; Noosaville along the river is more relaxed and better value, with easy Everglades access.

Dundee Local Tip

Walk the Noosa National Park coastal track early — you'll often spot koalas in the trees near Tea Tree Bay and beat the midday crowds to the Fairy Pools and Hell's Gates. If K'gari is on your list, Noosa and nearby Rainbow Beach are handy launch points. [Dundee team: replace or add your own first-hand tip here.]
