About Port Lincoln

Australia's seafood capital and the only place in the country to cage dive with great white sharks. Swim with sea lions, feast on the freshest tuna, and explore the stunning coastline of the Eyre Peninsula.

Port Lincoln sits at the tip of South Australia's Eyre Peninsula, around 650 kilometres from Adelaide by road or a short flight away. Known as the seafood capital of Australia and the only place in the country where you can cage dive with great white sharks, it's a destination built for thrill-seekers, marine-life lovers, and anyone who appreciates seriously fresh seafood.

The headline experience is great white shark cage diving at the Neptune Islands, a marine reserve roughly three hours by boat offshore. Lowered into the water in a sturdy cage, you come face to face with one of the ocean's most powerful predators in complete safety. It's the only place in Australia where this is possible, and for many travellers it's the adventure of a lifetime. Surface cages require no diving experience, while certified divers can descend deeper in specialised cages.

For a gentler but equally memorable encounter, you can swim with Australian sea lions — often called the puppies of the sea for their playful, curious nature. Tours from nearby Baird Bay and around the peninsula let you snorkel alongside these acrobatic animals as they twist and dart through the water. Dolphins frequently join in too.

Port Lincoln is the heart of Australia's seafood industry, home to one of the country's largest commercial fishing fleets. Southern bluefin tuna, King George whiting, kingfish, and abalone are all landed here, and you can even swim in a sea pen with giant tuna at a working aquaculture farm. Nearby Coffin Bay is famous for its oysters, which you can shuck and eat straight from the water.

The coastline itself is spectacular. Lincoln National Park, just south of town, offers rugged cliffs, sheltered bays, white-sand beaches, and abundant wildlife, including emus and kangaroos. Coffin Bay National Park, to the west, is a wild landscape of dunes, inlets, and pristine beaches perfect for fishing, camping, and four-wheel driving.

Beyond the water, the Eyre Peninsula is a working landscape of farms and fishing towns with a genuinely relaxed, uncrowded feel — a world away from Australia's busy east-coast tourist trail. Wildlife is everywhere, from the sea lions and sharks offshore to the kangaroos, emus, and osprey along the coast.

Port Lincoln is remote enough that most travellers arrive by short flight from Adelaide or as part of an Eyre Peninsula road trip. Dundee Adventure's tours bring together the shark diving, sea lion swims, and seafood experiences, handling the logistics so you can focus on the adventure.
