Better than I imagined
We saw more whales than I ever expected — breaching, spy-hopping, the lot. The crew were brilliant and even guaranteed a sighting. Do it!

Amazing sightings
Saw multiple whales breaching and tail-slapping. Bit of swell out there but the skipper positioned us perfectly for photos. Loved it.

So close to the whales
A curious whale came right up to the boat and hung around for ages. The guides were passionate and knew heaps about the humpbacks. Unforgettable.

Whales put on a show!
We had humpbacks breaching right beside the boat — mums and calves waving their fins. The crew clearly knew where to find them. Magical morning.

Bucket-list whale watching
Humpbacks everywhere, a calf breaching over and over. The commentary really added to it. Warm, friendly crew and a very comfortable boat.

Great morning on the water
Plenty of whale activity and a knowledgeable crew. Would have liked a touch longer out there but a wonderful experience overall.

About Swim with Whales Tour
Operated by Sunreef Mooloolaba · 4 Hours, 30 Minutes · Mooloolaba, QLD
Set off from Mooloolaba and head into the clear winter waters of the Sunshine Coast, where humpback whales travel through on their annual migration. This is a small-group experience with just up to 15 guests, so there’s time to settle in, get properly briefed, and feel the anticipation build as the coast slips behind you. Wetsuits and snorkelling gear are provided, so all you need to do is turn up ready for the water.
Once a whale is spotted, the crew will position the boat safely away before giving the go-ahead to enter the ocean. From there, it’s all in the whale’s hands. Some glide in close with a curious look, others drift past in that calm, effortless way only humpbacks can manage. Either way, you’ll be floating in open water beside one of the ocean’s great travellers, with the salty breeze, blue water and quiet excitement all around you. If you’ve been keen to see the Sunshine Coast in a truly wild way, this is the one to book.
Know before you go: - Children under 8 are not permitted on board. Guests aged 8 to 15 must be accompanied by an adult or guardian in the water at all times and must be strong swimmers. - Pregnant guests cannot participate in this tour. - This is an open-water activity, so seasickness medication is a smart idea if you’re prone to motion sickness. - Whale encounters are never guaranteed and always happen on the animals’ terms; if no whales are sighted, you’ll be eligible for 50% off your next trip. - Sunreef will confirm your departure by email and text message the afternoon before your tour. - Bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, and anything else you’d like for a day on the water. Winter conditions can be around 17–23°C, with visibility often ranging from 10–30m.
