Better than I imagined

We saw more whales than I ever expected — breaching, spy-hopping, the lot. The crew were brilliant and even guaranteed a sighting. Do it!

Amazing sightings

Saw multiple whales breaching and tail-slapping. Bit of swell out there but the skipper positioned us perfectly for photos. Loved it.

Humpbacks stole the show

These gentle giants breached so close we got soaked and did not care one bit. The guides were fantastic with the kids too.

Bucket-list whale watching

Humpbacks everywhere, a calf breaching over and over. The commentary really added to it. Warm, friendly crew and a very comfortable boat.

So close to the whales

A curious whale came right up to the boat and hung around for ages. The guides were passionate and knew heaps about the humpbacks. Unforgettable.

Whales put on a show!

We had humpbacks breaching right beside the boat — mums and calves waving their fins. The crew clearly knew where to find them. Magical morning.

About Swim with Humpback Whales

Operated by Whale One · 4 Hours, 30 Minutes · Mooloolaba, QLD

Head out from Mooloolaba and into the clear winter waters of the Sunshine Coast for a rare encounter that feels as calm as it is surreal. On this 4.5-hour experience, you’ll watch for migrating humpback whales with a crew who know these waters well, then slip into the ocean when conditions are right and the whales choose to come close.

There’s no scripting here, just the magic of a completely natural moment. One whale might glide past with slow, effortless grace; another may circle back, curious as anything. You’ll stay behind a floating line, eyes on the water, taking in the size, power and gentleness of these incredible animals from a respectful distance. It’s the kind of encounter that leaves you quiet in the best possible way.

With a small group size, all snorkelling gear provided, and a proper briefing before you hit the water, it’s a smooth and well-managed adventure from start to finish. If you’ve ever wanted to get a little closer to the ocean’s biggest visitors, this is your chance to do it with the right crew beside you.

Know before you go: - This experience is not suitable for pregnant travellers. - Children aged 8–15 must be strong swimmers and have an adult or guardian with them on board and in the water at all times. - Children under 8 are not permitted on board. - Because this is an open-water trip, seasickness can be an issue — consider bringing suitable motion sickness medication if you’re prone to it. - Trip confirmation is sent by email and text message the afternoon before departure, so keep an eye on your messages. - Wildlife encounters are never guaranteed; if no whales are sighted during your trip, you’ll be offered 50% off a future booking.
