Adelaide is one of Australia's most underrated campervan starting points, sitting at the crossroads of several incredible road trip routes. The city is surrounded by world-class wine regions, dramatic coastline, and outback landscapes that feel a million miles from civilisation.

The Barossa Valley is less than an hour north of Adelaide and is one of Australia's premier wine regions, with over 150 wineries to visit. McLaren Vale, another top wine area, is about forty minutes south. Both are easy day trips or overnight stops in your van.

Kangaroo Island is accessible by ferry from Cape Jervis, about ninety minutes south of Adelaide. The island is famous for its wildlife (sea lions, koalas, echidnas, and kangaroos), stunning coastal formations like Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch, and pristine beaches. You can take your campervan on the ferry and spend two to four days exploring the island.

For a longer adventure, the drive from Adelaide to Melbourne via the Great Ocean Road is one of Australia's best road trips, covering the Twelve Apostles, the Grampians, and the stunning Limestone Coast along the way. Heading north, the Flinders Ranges are about four hours out of Adelaide and offer dramatic outback gorges, ancient fossils at Nilpena, and some of the best night skies in the country.
