K’gari Fraser Island Adventure: Katia’s Student Travel Story

A Weekend Escape from Noosa

Katia, a Spanish student at Lexis English Noosa, used Dundee Adventure Travel to check off her bucket list and experience the wild beauty of K’gari (Fraser) Island, Queensland. Although she was busy with studies, she made time for this unforgettable weekend escape.

“K’gari is definitely one of the wildest experiences that I have had in Australia!”

Leaving the Comfort Zone

“It was fascinating to spend three days in this environment, sleeping in a tent and having close contact with nature. We had minimal amenities—no showers, but wonderful lakes for swimming.

Day one started at Nomads Hostel in Noosa Heads, where I met my car mates for the first time. Because driving on sand can be challenging, the safety briefing was intense. However, once I tried driving on the sandy tracks, I quickly realized how amazing and fun it was to leave my comfort zone behind.”

New Friends and Shared Experiences

“Over the journey, we were still meeting each other. There were 31 people from different countries, and this diversity was so rewarding. We split into four 4WD cars, each with eight people, and it was actually more comfortable than I expected.

Once we arrived on the island, we visited iconic landmarks such as Lake McKenzie, Eli Creek, Seventy-Five Mile Beach, Central Station, and the Maheno shipwreck. Our guide ensured we were always safe and informed.”

Camping, Wildlife, and Nightlife

“Although I could have chosen luxury accommodation, I loved the experience of camping in a wilder natural environment. We cooked meals together, heard the wind at night, and played camp games led by our tour guide, Hayden. These evenings were some of the most fun and memorable parts of the trip.

From my point of view, this is the perfect trip to relax in nature and discover more about local wildlife. For example, we spotted several dingos during our drives. When you spend time immersed in nature, you realize how much you need it for your protection and wellbeing.”
