Preparing for a Solo Adventure
After finishing my studies at Lexis English School in Noosa, I had 8 weeks of solo travel in Australia ahead of me. Although traveling alone for that long, in all new places, was a bit scary, I was really excited for this adventure to begin. Because I wanted to make the most of every moment, I worked with Dundee Adventure to plan the perfect route.
Whitsundays: Sailing and New Friends
My first stop was Airlie Beach. I stayed one night before starting a three-day sailing trip through the Whitsundays. While the weather wasn’t ideal, the wonderful people I met made it memorable. If you’re planning solo travel in Australia, I highly recommend an overnight trip through the Whitsundays. The whole experience was fantastic, and I learned that shared adventures can make solo travel even more rewarding.

Magnetic Island: Wildlife Encounters
After Airlie Beach, I took the Greyhound to Magnetic Island. Although I didn’t meet many social travelers, I enjoyed walks and saw wild wallabies and a koala. Because the island is so peaceful, it was the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with nature.

Cairns: Rainforests and Adrenaline
Next, I spent a night in Townsville, then headed to Cairns. There, I explored waterfalls and rainforests, snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef, and went canyoning. As a result, I experienced a lot of adrenaline-packed fun and discovered just how diverse Australia’s landscapes can be.

Uluru & The Outback: A True Aussie Experience
My next stop was the outback: Uluru. I joined a three-day tour to Alice Springs, visiting Kata Tjuta, Uluru, and Kings Canyon. Because sleeping in a swag was so unique, I recommend it to anyone exploring solo in Australia who wants an authentic experience.

From Adelaide to Melbourne: Iconic Sights
After the desert, my journey continued from Adelaide to Melbourne, visiting Grampians National Park and the Great Ocean Road. Because seeing the 12 Apostles was a highlight, I’ll never forget just how impressive they looked in person. Melbourne was a great city to explore solo after guided tours.

Western Australia: Coast to Outback
After Melbourne, I explored Western Australia on a 10-day tour from Adelaide to Perth. Our group made the long drives along the Nullarbor enjoyable. Because we passed so many beautiful beaches and slept in swag tents, it became a routine that I missed when the journey ended.

Pinnacles, Ningaloo Reef & Rottnest Island
Arriving in Perth, I started a seven-day tour from Perth to Exmouth and return, visiting Pink Lakes, the Pinnacles, and Ningaloo Reef. Because I love wildlife, seeing a wild quokka on Rottnest Island was a highlight.

Sydney & Reflections
If you have the chance to visit the West, do it—especially Ningaloo Reef. My final 10 days were in Sydney. The Harbour Bridge and Opera House were breathtaking, and the Blue Mountains did not disappoint. Overall, the trip was amazing. When I look back at my 8 weeks of solo travel in Australia, I can’t help but smile. I saw so much, met great people, and made memories I’ll always cherish.
