Meet Katia! A Spanish student at Lexis English Noosa, who during her studies, escaped for the weekend to the stunning and wild K’gari (Fraser) Island, off the coast of Queensland. Katia used the services at Dundee Adventure Travel to check off this bucket list trip during her time in Noosa.
Read about Katia’s story in her own words:
“K’gari is definitely one of the wildest experiences that I have had in Australia!”
“It was fascinating to spend 3 days in this environment, sleeping in a tent, and having close contact with nature. As well as minimal amenities; no shower… but we did have wonderful lakes available.
Day one started in Nomads Hostel in Noosa Heads. Here I met for the first time those would be become my car mates. There were volunteers to drive from Noosa until the island of K’gari. At first, it seemed a bit scary, the idea of driving because of all the explanations that we were given in the safety briefing, but as always, leaving your comfort zone is exciting! And when I did try to drive through the sand, then I quickly realized how amazing and fun it was.
Over the journey we were still meeting each other. There were 31 people from different countries, and this was so rewarding. We split into 4 different 4WD cars with 8 people in each car, and it was actually more comfortable that I expected.
Once we arrived on Fraser Island, we visited different landmarks during the three days. We were always under the watchful instruction of the guide. We visited Lake McKenzie, Eli Creek, Seventy-Five Mile Beach, Central Station, and Maheno shipwreck – to name but a few.
Although having the choice of sleeping in a luxury accommodation, I loved the experience of spending my time in a wilder natural environment, cooking meals by ourselves and hearing and feeling the wind during the nights. We really just used the camp ground for sleeping and having dinners, which they were super fun. Our tour guide Hayden led us in some fun games at night too.
From my point of view, this is the perfect trip to relax in nature and to discover more about the wild life around you. We were able to spot quite a few dingos along our drives. When you spend a great deal of time being in contact with nature, you are able to receive its energy and often realized how much we need it for our protection and wellbeing.”
