This K’gari 4WD tag along tour is designed for travellers aged 18–35 who want a social camping trip with no hidden costs, plus iconic stops like Lake McKenzie, Eli Creek and the Maheno shipwreck.
A moderate fitness level is recommended. You’ll do short walks and one longer walk on Day 3 (approx. 40–45 minutes each way) to reach Lake Wabby. For safety, ocean swimming is not permitted on K’gari due to rips and marine hazards—your swim stops are at freshwater lakes/creeks and Champagne Pools.

Is this K’gari 4WD tag along tour all-inclusive?
Yes—permits, barge fees, camping gear, main meals and vehicle insurance are included. Soft drinks and alcohol are not included.
Where do we meet and what time do we depart?
Meeting point is Pippies Beachhouse, 22 Spectrum St, Rainbow Beach. Tours usually depart around 7:00am, however times can change due to tides.
What time do we return to Rainbow Beach?
Return time depends on tides and conditions. You can arrive back anytime between 1:00pm and 5:30pm.
Do I have to drive?
No. You can join as a passenger. If you want to drive, you must be 21+, hold a full open licence for at least 12 months, and bring your original physical licence (plus an international licence if your licence is not in English).
Can I bring alcohol?
Yes, but no glass.
Do I need to attend a briefing?
No in-person briefing is required. You’ll receive a preparation email the day before departure with a video and a waiver to complete.
Where can I store luggage?
There is free luggage storage at Pippies Beachhouse.
Is it safe to swim on K’gari?
Ocean swimming is not allowed due to sharks and rips. You’ll swim in freshwater lakes/creeks and at Champagne Pools (the safe saltwater swim area).
