Paddle the clear Pacific waters of Byron Bay on this 2 hour sea kayak tour with the chance to see wild dolphins, seasonal whales and turtles in Cape Byron Marine Park. Learn local Aboriginal stories, enjoy epic views of the Byron coastline and Cape Byron Lighthouse, and kayak with Byron’s most experienced lifesaver‑owned operator, Go Sea Kayak.
The Byron Bay Sea Kayak Tour [PADEVG] is a 2 hour ocean adventure in the clear Pacific waters surrounding Cape Byron. Departing from Byron Bay’s main beach, you’ll paddle sit‑on‑top kayaks with an experienced local guide, learning the basics on the sand before heading out past the shore break.
Once on the water, you’ll explore Cape Byron Marine Park with the chance to see wild bottlenose dolphins, turtles and, in winter and spring, migrating humpback whales. Along the way you’ll hear local Aboriginal stories, spot sacred coastal places and enjoy sweeping views of Byron’s coastline and the iconic Cape Byron Lighthouse.
Owned and operated by real local surf lifesavers, Go Sea Kayak has a 100% safety record and one of the best guide‑to‑guest ratios in Byron Bay. Their Go Sea Guarantee means that if you don’t see a dolphin, turtle or whale, you can come back for another tour free of charge. It’s a must‑do Byron Bay experience for families, couples and active travellers.
Arrive at the Go Sea Kayak trailer on the park opposite 56 Lawson Street, Byron Bay, at least 25 minutes before your tour time. You’ll meet your guides and fellow paddlers, get fitted with safety gear and learn the basics of paddling a sit‑on‑top kayak during a short beach lesson and safety briefing.
Next, you’ll launch your double kayaks and paddle out through the shore break with help from your guides. This is your chance to impress yourself and your friends as you get out into the bay and settle into an easy paddling rhythm.
Once on the water, you’ll paddle along Byron’s famous surf breaks, including The Pass and Wategos, towards Australia’s most easterly point, Cape Byron. As you go, your guides will share local Aboriginal stories, point out sacred coastal places and highlight the marine life and landmarks around you.
Keep an eye out for Byron’s resident pod of bottlenose dolphins, turtles popping up for air and, in winter and spring, migrating humpback whales. At the same time, you’ll enjoy incredible views back to Byron Bay’s coastline and the Cape Byron Lighthouse high on the headland.
To finish, you’ll paddle back towards Main Beach, soaking up the final views of the bay. If conditions allow, your guides can show you how to surf a small wave back to shore. Back on the beach, you’ll return your gear, grab your belongings and swap stories about your Byron Bay sea kayak adventure.
